David J. Slawkowski was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1975 and now concentrates his practice of law in the areas of Medical Malpractice Defense, Professional Regulation and Healthcare Counseling. Since 1975, Mr. Slawkowski has concentrated his practice in the defense of professional liability claims against health care providers. His extensive experience includes trials involving numerous cases of wrongful death, as well as birth injury, bilateral limb loss, HIV infection, and premises liability. Medical specialties defended by Mr. Slawkowski include urology, emergency medicine, obstetrics, anesthesia, cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, internal medicine, and pediatrics, as well as various types of alleged institutional negligence.

Mr. Slawkowski has also defended institutions in staff privilege lawsuits, and in proceedings before the Illinois Department of Public Health. He has represented physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other licensed health care professionals in disciplinary and other licensing matters before the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Additionally, he has many years of experience counseling institutions on matters of healthcare law, especially pertaining to patient care and patient rights. He is a trained mediator in the Rush University Medical Center mediation program, and is eligible to serve in the court-sponsored mediation program in Cook County.

Mr. Slawkowski received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1972, and his J.D. from Harvard University Law School in 1975.

He has also published a number of articles and book chapters, including, "Legal Counsel and Risk Management," Hospital Quality Assurance, Aspen, 1984; "Special Problems Respecting Institutional Negligence," Defense of Medical Malpractice, IICLE, 1983; "Do the Courts Understand the Realities of Hospital Practices?" Vol. 22, No. 3, Saint Louis University Law Journal, 1978; and "Adolescent Medicine and Law," in State of the Art Review - Adolescent Medicine, Hanley & Belfor, Inc., 1993. He also collaborated with others in the firm in a book chapter, "Duties, Liabilities and Immunities" in Health Law which appears in Illinois Jurisprudence.
