ARP Attorneys William C. Anderson, III and Susan K. Laing Obtain Not Guilty Verdict in Estes v. Illinois Department of Human Services "Silk Pajamas" Employment Discrimination Case

Yesterday, a federal jury returned a defense verdict in favor of the Illinois Department of Human Services in a highly publicized employment discrimination case. Carlos Estes, a former employee of the Department, claimed that he was sexually harassed by Chief of Staff Teyonda Wertz and that he was fired in retaliation for refusing and reporting those advances. Mr. Estes was fired approximately three weeks after the alleged harassment. The Department denied that any sexual advances were made and that Mr. Estes was fired after repeatedly misusing a state car and attempting to cover-up his misuse. Anderson, Rasor & Partners LLP’s attorneys William C. Anderson, III and Susan K. Laing assumed the Department’s defense and tried the case following the unsuccessful attempt by the Illinois Attorney General’s office to obtain summary judgment.
